First Day Of Summer

Do u feelz it? Iz it summery?

At chez Elliott, the doors and windows are open to let in the summer breezes.

A murder of crows parked in the tree outside the house.

What does the crow say?

"Aawk, aawk!"

(Although it put me in mind of Steve Allen: How's your bird? Shmock, shmock!)

(I think he's wearing my glasses...)

  1. No, Jack, Steve Allen's glasses are MUCH cooler than your glasses.

Is that an ad for one of the very early Polaroid cameras?

  2. "Central Oregon summer: six weeks of sunshine and thunderstorms." -- posted on the BendBubble2 blog a couple years ago

I'm looking forward to the thunderstorms.

  3. If a crowd of crows is a murder, what do you call a crowd of ravens? We've had one at our place for the past week or so, uttering their raucous cries. Very big and rather intimidating birds.

  4. According to my well-thumbed copy of "The Book of Hawking, Hunting, and Blasing of Arms", ravens also travel in murders.

They are sinister in appearance. It's not a far stretch to attribute to them dark thoughts, such as actual murder. Cold, compassionless murder.

But outside my window right now a chubby robin is hopping about on the branch of a juniper. Eying the ground for earthworms . . . and contemplating cold, compassionless murder.

It's a dog-eat-dog world out there and I'm wearing Milk Bone shorts.

  5. According to this site:

... a group of ravens is called a "congress."

That's appropriate, I think -- a collection of loudly croaking carrion feeders.
